First Contact

This morning I woke up at about 6:15 in the hopes that I would this time make contact with my new Italian landlord. So there I was, 6:25am, sleepy eyed, at my kitchen table dialing a really long number of someone I have only talked to through email a few times. I didn't hear a normal ring tone like you would if you were dialing a friends house...all I heard was clicking. Then I heard Natale (who is a man btw) pick up the phone. I knew before phoning that there would be a language barrier issue but to what extent I had no idea.

He rattled off something in Italian (which I obviously didn't understand). I said my name and we were on our way. We talked for a couple of minutes about a security deposit and how I was going to get it there but when I really realized he had no idea what I was saying was when I said, "I will talk to the bank here and find out the easiest way to send you the money". He replied with silence on the line and then told me that he didn't understand what I had just said. I replied with a "talk.... bank...... money....you..." and he said "yes, I understand." Wow, ok so I knew there would be a language problem but that was just to funny. lol

So as it sits right now, I have a place to live (I think), two female roommates who I have never met from different countries (one from Italy, one from Spain) and a HUGE language barrier issue. ;-) That doesn't seem so bad, does it?!?

Tomorrow is apply for Visa day! Wish me luck!

77 days and counting... I can't wait!
