The Day of Mixed Emotions

Today actually started out a little rough. After only sleeping from 3:30am until 6am I had to get up to go on my photo class field trip. Our meeting time was 8:30 so I made sure I was there early enough I could grab a pastry from the McCafe. :) By 9am we were still waiting for one of the girls to show up even though we had a strict need to be on time rule today. I have to say that it made me a little grumpy (that and the major lack of sleep) but I tried to stay positive. Once inside the car I was the lucky one that got to sit in the front seat instead of crammed in the back of his pretty small Fiat with 3 people. He then put a cassette (yup totally still was playing cassettes, lol) and we were on our way. We stopped at a couple of places along the way to the beach, which in total was over a 2 hour car ride.

By 1:00 I was nicely settled on my beach blanket and ready to enjoy the water and soak up the sun. I even got up the nerve to put my bathing suit on. I went into the water a few times which was gorgeous. It was a little murky but all in all it was great! We did end up having a bit of situation though. We were all in the water hanging out and all of sudden I felt a tingle across my foot. It didn't hurt, it just tingled. I mentioned to everyone that I think a jellyfish may have come close to me. Right then, the jellyfish (which we actually couldn't see for the murky water) stung one of the guys in class. He had a red line down his arm and said it hurt really bad. He was fine in the end (just washed it off and he was good to go) but I think it was totally cool that I kinda, sorta, almost got stung by a jellyfish myself. ;)

Well we ended up staying on the beach until about 3pm and then decided to go have some lunch and then head home. Ok, so this is the part where I have to admit my sheer stupidity and ask for your guidance, if you have any. I put on sunscreen once at the beach, however I have to admit that it was about 45min after we got there and I only put it on my face and chest. (I know I know) Needless to say (I know you all know where this is going), I am a lobster. Not even joking. My legs (which by definition were a pale chicken white before) are now a tomato red. they are burning (really really bad) and its from my feet all the way up. My back is also really bad. My face and chest (because I actually thought to protect them) are only minorly red. They still hurt a little but nothing to the agony of my legs. As soon as I got home I ran a room temperature bath and sat in that which actually seemed to help while I was in there. I Also bought Aloe Vera gel while at the beach still because I could already feel my legs hurting. So my question to all of you is...is there anything else I can do? All suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :)

We then headed for home and had a very quite yet painful ride. I did make Diego stop at a field of sunflowers though so that I could take some pictures.

So at the end of the day, this is how I am feeling. Totally happy that I was able to go on this trip today. I Still have no voice and now I have a crazy ass sunburn but I am still happy that I was able to see all that I saw today. I also realized how much Tuscany makes me feel like home. I new it would from all of the pictures I have seen but actually being able to go out again into Tuscany today and see the farmers hard at work and all of the swathed, cultivated and some still blooming fields (like the sunflowers), it really made me think of my home. The only real difference I seen today was the fact that there were WAY more hills than you would even see in Sask.

Temp high: Way to hot for my pasty white skin. :(
Gelato: None, can you believe it? At the beach and I didn't even get ice cream.

  1. if you dont mind smelling like a pickle vinegar works really well it takes the sting out of it better than aloe vera does.

Sounds like you had a good time other than the sunburn.. oh and I think its cool you kinda sorta almost got stung by a jelly fish too!

  3. I think it's more cool that you felt the jelly but didnt get stung. ha ha

As for the sunburn.... YOU KNOW BETTER BON! lol. When it happens to me, i have a cool bath and afterwards slather, actually more like slop on some aloe, sprawl out on the bed/or floor, and blast the fan on high. lol. You'll atleast be able to forget about ur skin being on fire for a while.

    Keep up the posting!!!

P.S - Make sure to lock your door if you plan on using my remedy. :) Though it would probably make for an interesting read. LOL!!

  4. Sounds like a fun day (much nicer than sitting at a potash mine for hours watching them dig a big hole in the ground, which is my life for the forseeable future!). Get aftersun lotion with lidocane in it. You need to reapply it every couple of hours, but it numbs the skin so it doesn't hurt anymore. Loved the photos. It must be awesome to be developing your skill in a place with so much to photograph! Cheers!
