I got up this morning with the fullest of intentions to go out and buy a few things that I wanted and to get my train ticket to Sicily. I was up by 10 and was ready to go by 1pm (after watching some tv). However, I was super tired so I decided to kill some more time by watching a few more episodes of Friends. You know, I really don't know what I am going to do when I am done watching Friends. I am already on Season 10 (I know, kinda sad huh?) lol oh well.
I headed out about 5 and went straight to the train station to get my ticket. I stood in line for about 40min and was lucky enough to have a guy at the counter that spoke pretty good English. I booked my ticket and wasn't lucky enough to get a direct ticket all the way to Taormino but instead I connect with a different train in Naples. So, I am leaving at 7:30pm on August 4th (Tuesday) and get to Naples around 11:00pm. I then have only 30min to get off the train and get on the new sleeper train that will take me straight to Taormina. On the sleeper train I was able to get a bed so that is good. I leave Naples at 11:30pmish and get into Sicily around 7:30am so I am pretty happy that I have a bed. It is a 4 bed cabin, which means that I will be sharing a room with 3 other women (they are divided for men and woman) and I have about 7 hours to hopefully get some sleep. I did decide to book a hotel room for the 5th and 6th of Aug in Taormina. I am happy about that. I was also looking at booking the train to my other destinations but have decided against it. I think I am going to wing it this time, knowing full well that it is peak season and everything books up. I guess the reason why I don't want to book everything ahead is because I don't really know when I want to leave or go to the next spot. What if I am having a blast in Sicily and don't want to leave on the the 7th? And, if I go to leave and there is no train, well then, I wait and catch the next one... no big deal. :)
After getting my ticket I headed out shopping. I have been eyeing up this one style of purse at the Guess store now for a few days. every day I have walked by and thought, man I have to have this purse! But every day I walk out empty handed. Well today I woke up and decided that yes, I was going to buy the purse. Now I should mention that the purses are all of half price right now, so what was a 120euro purse was now a 60euro purse. How could I go wrong! I walked back into the store today though and again had some doubts. There were two there that I loved parts of each of and they are the same design just different shape. Well I couldn't decide between the two because the one that I was really in love with didn't have a big enough strap that is could even go over my shoulder which would mean that I would have to hang onto this purse all the time by the handles and that just didn't seem right because it was fairly big. Anyway, long story short, I walked out yet again, with no purse. I am still so sad about this though. I loved the look of that purse so much! The sales right now that are going on are so crazy that I can't not look around. I also stopped at this one store and found a really cute pair of red and jean material slip on shoes. Super cute and they were really comfortable and actually pretty cheap witch is always a bonus.
On my way home I decided to take a bit of a detour through the train station. For over 6 weeks now, I have been at the train station every day and every day I see stairs that lead down under the train station so that you don't have to dart through traffic to get to the other side. Well, today because I had all sorts of time, I decided to go down underground to see what was there. Well it was insane! It was like a whole underworld of shops, travel agencies, coffee bars, hair salons and countless other things. I walked around for quite awhile looking at everything. I have to admit though, being under the train station made it feel a bit more seedy but still it was kind of interesting. I am not sure if I will go back down as I have pretty much perfected the art of dodging the buses and traffic above. :) It was pretty cool though to see it.
I wonder what other hidden gems are waiting for me to find them here in Florence?
Temp High: 34
Gelato: n/a but I have to say that as I type this, I am drinking my first glass of Crema di Limoncetta (Lemoncello but in cream form). It's actually pretty good with some ice and a bit of milk to make it just a bit more creamier. Mmmmm
